Now that cooler mornings are here, it feels good to start the day with a warming breakfast. As it is so great to eat seasonally, lets think stewed apples for breakfast. Organic would be good as apples regulary feature near the top of ‘most pesticides’ list. Apples are full of both soluble and insoluble fibre which is great to keep your intestines clean and bowels clear, they have bioflavonoids and soak up free radicals.
Put a little water in a small saucepan, add 5 cloves and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (to wake up your digestive fire – Agni), some raisins (iron and flavour), and add in your chopped apple. Put the lid on and stew for 5-10 minutes depending on how crunchy you like it.
I like to serve with more nutrients: LSA – more great roughage as well as Omega 3, and possibly some chia seeds for protein. You could add prunes to it whilst stewing as well. Make your own LSA with 3 parts linseed (flaxmeal), 2 parts sunflower seeds and 1 part amonds ground up together. Add in some seame seeds to increase calcium.
Happy, healthy start to your day.
