What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a system of medicine, over 5,000 years old, originating in India. The word is often translated as meaning ‘The science of life’. Ayurvedic treatments encompass diet, exercise, lifestyle, herbal medicines, massage and wonderful herbalised oil treatments like Shirodhara.
What makes Ayurveda different to Naturopathy and herbal medicine?
Ayurveda not only considers the disease and its characteristics; it also studies the person and his/her characteristics. Because of this it can form a very individual diagnosis of the disease in the particular person and so treatment is very individual and appropriate for you.
What are the doshas?
The doshas are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. They are names for combinations of the elements Ether, Air, Fire, Earth and Water. Ayurveda looks at a person and discovers his/her ‘Prakriti’ (essential nature viewed as a particular combination of elements). This allows for highly individual treatment plans.
What sort of health problems do you recommend Ayurvedic treatment for?
Ayurveda is especially effective in problems relating to lack of energy & fatigue, stress & anxiety, poor digestion & bloating, overweight, insomnia and women’s health.
